The bridge between inner and outer world
Staying always connected to the breath is not easy. That requires a connection of the Buddhi, Mana as well and Chitta with the consciousness.
Buddhi is the owner of logic and reason. That naturally brings arrogance. While, we operate in this world, time and again, the Buddhi gets praise as well as criticism from fellow beings. In the moments of praise, it starts owning up the credit and in the moments of criticism, it feels insecure and threatened. Though it is with Rama like Lakshmana, on many occasions, it develops the arrogance of being the doer and gets trapped in illusion.
Mana moves very fast from one object to the other. It takes us from one end of the universe to the other in a fraction of a second. But it is very powerful and has the capacity to undertake the journey into the inner world. Like Hanuman, when it is connected to Rama, it can cross the ocean and go to Lanka to find the whereabouts of Sita, it may be distracted to eat the Sun mistaking it to be an apple.
Chitta is the storehouse of our Samskaras. It may have that connection with the consciousness like Vibhishana or may be quite disconnected like Ravana. Vibhishana can never be comfortable till Lanka is ruled by Ravana. Its a matter of fact that the unconscious mind of almost all of us is full of desires. Some have worldly accepted desires and some have desires which are not so acceptable. Some of us have many desires while some of us have few desires which are very strong. Whatever the desire may be, that is the creation of ignorance and the absence of connection with the consciousness.
This unconscious world is going to rule our decisions and actions till Rama kills the Ravana inside and makes Vibhishana the ruler of the inner kingdom. That can not happen till Sugriva meets Rama and a bridge is built between the outer and the inner world. That bridge is built with stones which are thrown into the sea with the name of Rama. When we carry out such deeds in this world which are inspired by oneness and have no motives or desires, such deeds result in the construction of the bridge between the conscious and the unconscious world. They help the consciousness reach the inner world so as to allow Rama to kill the Ravana within and establish Vibhishana as the ruler of the inner world.
Handling the arrogance of Buddhi, movements of the Mana, rulership of Ravana, and nonavailability of the bridge between the inner and outer world, each one of these, is quite challenging, and probably the only measure of spiritual progress is only one factor viz how often our Buddhi, Mana and Chitta stays connected to the divine. Circumstances are actually meaningless.
